MOSCOW (Sputnik) — In her first address to Buenos Aires since in prime ministerial office, May proposed to settle bilateral disagreements, as the Argentinean left-wing government has curbed oil and gas exploration in the waters around the disputed archipelago over the past 12 years.

"This includes making progress towards new air links between the Falkland Islands and third countries in the region, and the removal of restrictive hydrocarbons measures," May said, as quoted by The Guardian newspaper, in her letter to Macri.

Argentina claims that it has inherited the Falkland Islands, located about 300 miles off the country's east coast, after they became independent of Spain. The territorial dispute with the United Kingdom saw a 74-day Falklands War in 1982, when Argentina invaded and briefly occupied the islands controlled by London.
