LUHANSK (Sputnik) – An explosion hit the car of Igor Plotnitsky, head of the self-proclaimed Lugansk People’s Republic (LPR), the republic’s police said on Saturday.

"An explosion took place in Lugansk today, a car of the LPR head, Igor Plotnitsky, was damaged," police told RIA Novosti.

Two people are said to have sustained injuries. There is no information whether Plotnitsky was in the car at the moment of the blast.

The eastern Ukrainian region of Donbass does not acknowledge the legitimacy of a February 2014 coup in Ukraine. The new Kiev regime launched a military operation against eastern Ukraine in April 2014 but failed to regain control over the breakaway territories.
