Russia Wants NATO to Explain Decisions Made at Warsaw Summit - Lavrov
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Poland believes that the agreements on the expansion of NATO's military presence on the Alliance's eastern flank are stable, regardless of who is chosen to be the next US president, foreign policy adviser to the Polish president Krzysztof Szczerski said Friday.

At the last NATO summit in Warsaw, it was decided on the unprecedented strengthening of the eastern flank of the alliance. NATO intends to have in place in 2017 in the Baltic States and Poland, four multinational battalions.

"Poland is ready to cooperate with any US administration. We believe that the Alliance is based on a real unity of interests between the countries and has a stable character. The decisions taken at the NATO summit make sense only if we understand them as adopted by the states, and not the persons. If we treat NATO as a sustainable and stable union, the agreements have a long-lasting nature, as that derives from the NATO's nature, and not from the wishes of particular persons," Szczerski told the Polish Press Agency in an interview.

The 27th NATO summit was held on July 8-9 in Poland's capital and was focused on relations with Russia. During the summit, the Alliance decided to strengthen its military presence in Eastern Europe on a rotational basis with four battalions in Poland and in the Baltic nations.

Earlier, US Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump has advocated for the United States to leave NATO unless other countries start footing more of the bill for its defense. He has also claimed the alliance is obsolete because it does not deal with terrorism. During his presidential nomination acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland in July, Trump said all US and NATO allies should absorb their fair share of collective security costs.
