The Czech police have stepped up controls at the border with Germany in a bid to prevent migrant flow, the head of the Czech Alien Police Milan Majer said on Thursday.

PRAGUE (Sputnik) — The Czech police have stepped up controls at the border with Germany in a bid to prevent migrant flow, the head of the Czech Alien Police Milan Majer said on Thursday.

"Since August 1, we have been performing selective controls at 15 border crossings. We choose drivers and certain types of vehicles," Majer told reporters.

According to him, these measures are intended to prevent the relocation to the neighboring countries of migrants who have not received a residence permit in Germany, there may be up to 200,000 of such people.

The police chief emphasized that the wave of undocumented migration had declined in the Czech Republic.

He recalled that the increased controls at the border with Austria have been in force for 14 months.

The Czech measures came shortly after a a wave of terrorist attacks shook a number of European cities in the past weeks, including in Germany and France. The notorious developments forced almost all European states boost safety and security measures.
