Germany’s prosecutor general took over the investigation of the Ansbach suicide attack, the office said in a press release Monday.

BERLIN (Sputnik) – A Syrian national with a rejected asylum application is suspected of blowing himself up and injuring at least 15 others outside an Ansbach bar at an open-air festival late Sunday.

"The evidence indicates that the 27-year-old Syrian national Mohammad D. set off an explosive device carried in his backpack at approximately 22:10 [20:10 GMT] not far from the area where ‘Ansbach-Open 2016’ festival was held," the statement reads.

It further notes that one of the reasons the prosecutor took up the case on a federal level was to investigate whether the suspect had accomplices outside Germany.
