PARIS (Sputnik) — Twenty people were arrested during an anti-terrorism operation in the northwestern Parisian suburb of Argenteuil, French media reported Thursday.
According to the iTele broadcaster, the operation was conducted by French intelligence services as part of the investigation by the anti-terrorism unit of the prosecutor's office. Searches of areas near a local mosque are reportedly underway.
Neither weapons, nor explosives have been found so far, the media outlet added.
It was earlier reported that the ongoing operation is not connected with the recent attack in the French city of Nice on July 14, which left 84 people dead.
This is not the first time police have conducted raids in Argenteuil. In March, French police foiled a terrorist plot there, arresting a 34-year-old man. According to French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve, the suspect was involved in planning an attack that was in advanced stages of development. He was charged with being an accomplice to a terrorist group, as well as with storing and transporting weapons.
