France's upper house of parliament, the Senate, voted on Wednesday to extend the state of emergency in the country for another six months.

PARIS (Sputnik) — According to Senate President Gerard Larcher, 310 senators voted in favor of the initiative, while only 26 opposed it.

The proposal by France’s main opposition party, the Republicans, has been earlier approved by the French National Assembly.

France has been on high alert since deadly Paris attacks in November 2015. The state of emergency was due to expire on July 26.
