French National Assembly has voted to extend the state of emergency in the country for six months, the Assembly's statement said on Wednesday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — France has been on high alert since deadly Paris attacks in November 2015. The state of emergency was due to expire on July 26. France’s main opposition party, the Republicans, proposed in a communique on Monday extending the state of emergency by a minimum of six months.

"489 lawmakers voted for [extension of the state of emergency], 26 voted against, 4 abstained," the statement reads.
