MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The United Kingdom should become more outward-looking, closing itself off to the world is not an answer, UK Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson said Tuesday.
Speaking at a press conference with US State Secretary John Kerry, Johnson claimed that some people did not feel the benefits of globalization. The answer to this issue is investing in skills and increasing productivity, according to the UK foreign secretary.
"It is not about the UK post-Brexit. It is not to close ourselves off or to become any less internationalist. On the contrary, we’ve got to become more outward-looking, more free trading, do more deals around the world," he said.
"What is certainly possible in a post-leaving the EU, and once we end our obligations under uncontrolled free movement it will be possible to have a system of control," Johnson told a press conference.
The UK foreign secretary stressed that such system could not be achieved immediately as the country was still a member of the bloc.
