The perpetrator of an attack on the French southern city of Nice was radicalized by Islamic State (IS) extremist group very quickly, France's Prime Minister Manuel Valls said.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The prime minister added that the investigation was yet to prove the fact, but French officials were certain of the terrorist's sudden turn into Islamism as he never had any "jihadist past."

"Saturday morning's claim by Islamic State [Daesh] and the fast radicalization of the killer confirm the nature of this attack," Valls told the French Le Journal du Dimanche weekly newspaper in an interview.

"I have always told the truth about terrorism: a war is underway, there will be more attacks. It's hard to say, but other lives will be lost," he stressed.

On Thursday night, a truck rammed into a large crowd that was celebrating Bastille Day in Nice. At least 84 people, including children, were killed and dozens of others were injured. The investigation found that the person behind the attack was 31-year-old resident of Nice of Tunisian origins Mohammed Lahouaiej Bouhlel.

On Saturday, media reported that IS, which is outlawed in many countries, including Russia, claimed responsibility for the attack.
