MOSCOW (Sputnik) — On Thursday evening, a heavy truck ploughed through a crowd watching Bastille Day fireworks in the southern French city of Nice, killing 84 people and injuring dozens more. French President Francois Hollande said the attack was of a "terrorist nature."
"The Slovak authorities are taking appropriate security measures but we are not closing our borders," Peter Stano said.
Stano also confirmed that there were no reports from the French authorities of any Slovak citizens being among the victims or those injured in Nice.
Earlier in the day, an EU source told Sputnik that the introduction of border controls between EU nations following deadly attacks is provided for under the Schengen Border Code.
Nearly all EU member states are part of the Schengen system, established in 1995 to facilitate the free movement of people and goods within the bloc. However, in response to the migrant crisis, in recent months some EU member states have introduced border controls and toughened their migration laws.
