MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The day of anti-hate postings across 14 German states was announced by the Federal Criminal Service (BKA) as part of its campaign to raise awareness of far-right extremism amid a steady inflow of immigrants.
"The number of politically-motivated hate crimes in the Internet has significantly risen during the EU migrant crisis. Hate speech must not poison the social climate. Attacks on refugee shelters are often caused by radicalization, including via social media," BKA chief Holger Muench said in a statement.
Police have raided the homes of some 40 people on suspicion of sending far-right postings on Facebook. The German criminal code penalizes hate speech, ethnic and racial discrimination, as well as glorification of Nazism.
