A minivan carrying undocumented migrants crashed in Slovakia, five children and two adults injured, media reported on Saturday.

PRAGUE (Sputnik) — The media reported that the driver ignored the police request to stop and tried to escape from the officers, thus, police had to shoot in the air. During the chase, driver had lost control of the vehicle, and it turned over.

"On Saturday morning, a police detachment tried to stop a suspicious minivan near Slovak-Austrian border crossing point Jarovce-Kittsee, near Bratislava… As it was found out later, a driver of the minivan tried to smuggle a group of illegal immigrants form Hungary to Austria through the territory of Slovakia," Slovakia Police Presidium spokesman Michal Slivka said as quoted by Pravda newspaper.

According to the reports, there were four adults and five children from Syria, Iraq and Iran in the minivan.

The driver may face a prison term up to 10 years, the media noted.
