Unidentified hooligans spray-painted anti-left slogans over the facade of a Madrid office of Unidos Podemos amid Spanish voters are casting ballots in a parliamentary election.

MADRID (Sputnik) — Unidentified hooligans on Sunday spray-painted anti-left slogans over the facade of a Madrid office housing Spain’s leftwing alliance.

Spanish voters are casting ballots in a parliamentary election after December’s inconclusive vote led to a political deadlock, with parties failing to form a unity government.

The headquarters of Unidos Podemos – an electoral alliance of Podemos (We Can) and United Left (UI) – was smeared with threats of carnage addressed to "the Reds." It featured a symbol of the far-right Falange movement that was active in Spain under dictator Francisco Franco.

The Madrid office of environmentalist Equo party, a junior partner in Unidos Podemos, was also attacked. "They painted ‘No to the Reds.' They have no clue we are green," party leader Juan Lopez de Uralde tweeted.

Unidos Podemos is projected to come second in the vote rerun after the center-right Popular Party (PP), ousting the Socialists, according to the recent opinion polls.
