United Kingdom Must Leave European Union as Soon as Possible

Foreign Ministers of six European counties agreed on Saturday that the UK should leave the EU as soon as possible.

BERLIN (Sputnik) — The United Kingdom must avoid uncertainty and leave the European Union following Brexit as soon as possible, the common statement by the Foreign Ministers of Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg and the Netherlands said Saturday.

"The decision of the British people marks a watershed moment in the history of Europe. The European Union is losing not only a member state, but a host of history, tradition and experience. We now expect the UK government to provide clarity and give effect to this decision as soon as possible," the press release read.

The meeting between German, French, Italian, Belgian, Dutch and Luxembourgian foreign ministers to discuss the results of the UK referendum on EU membership is taking place in the Berlin's Borsig Palace on Saturday.

On Thursday, the United Kingdom held a referendum to determine whether or not the country should leave the European Union. According to the final results, 51.9 percent of voters, or 17.4 million people, decided to support Brexit, while about 16.1 million opposed it.
