UK Vote Leave Camp's Vow to Divert EU-Assigned Funds to Health 'Mistake'

UK Independence Party (UKIP) leader Nigel Farage said Friday he could not guarantee the country's National Health Service would receive the additional funds previously promised by the Vote Leave campaigners despite their victory in the EU referendum in Britain.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Vote Leave suggested in its campaign ahead of the referendum spending funds saved from payments to the EU budget on the health service instead.

"I can't and I would never have made that claim — it was one of the mistakes that the Leave campaign made," Farage, who did not participate in the Vote Leave campaign, said in an interview with ITV's Good Morning Britain.

On Thursday, the United Kingdom held a referendum on its membership of the European Union. Earlier on Friday, it was announced that 51.9 percent of people supported the move to leave the bloc.
