Around 60,000 people are taking part in a demonstration in Paris against labor reforms, local L’Express newspaper reported Thursday.

PARIS (Sputnik) – According to L’Express newspaper citing the FO union, approximately 60,000 individuals are demonstrating. There had reportedly been 12 arrests.

Over 2,000 police officers have been mobilized to ensure security at the event in central Paris. As many as 85 have been reportedly arrested ahead of the event.

In recent months, France has been hit by nationwide protests and sporadic strikes over a controversial labor reform bill. Among the reforms proposed by Prime Minister Manuel Valls’ government are highly unpopular attempts to increase daily working hours and simplify firing procedures.
