The French authorities have ordered 28 schools and colleges in the city of Lens to close ahead of the England-Wales match group match in the Euro 2016 football tournament, local media reported Thursday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to BFMTV, some 7,000 children remain at home on Thursday for security reasons, as municipal authorities expect clashes among the British fans.

Lens is located some 20 miles from Lille, which saw football hooligan violence on Wednesday evening, as Russia played against Slovakia.

After the Slovakian national football team defeated the Russians 2-1, skirmishes broke out between the Russian football supporters and crowds of English fans who shouted insults at the Russians.

On Saturday, violence erupted in Marseille, as Russian and English fans clashed ahead of and after the match between their national teams at the Velodrome stadium in the city.
