Earlier, it was reported that the French authorities were going to expel a total of 20 Russian fans recently detained in a bus on the way to the northern French city of Lille.
"A delegation of the All-Russia Fans’ Union, whose bus was detained on June 14 on its way from Marseille to Lille, spent over 24 hours under arrest. In the end, 20 people were released, while 20 others, including head of the All-Russia Fans’ Union Alexander Shprygin, were moved to a deportation center, from where they will be sent out of the country in the next five days," the union’s spokesperson said.
The French authorities made the decision to deport Russian fans for "security reasons," the spokesperson added.
Shprygin told R-Sport that the fans’ union will try to challenge the decision of the Marseille prosecutor’s office.
"We want to call the consul to challenge this decision; we have the right to do that as well as to call a lawyer. We will call him tomorrow," the Russian fans' leader said.
On June 11, the Russian national football team played with England in a UEFA Euro-2016 football match in the French city of Marseille. After the game, clashes between Russian and English fans erupted at the stadium and in the port town. As a result, at least 30 people were injured.
