LONDON (Sputnik) — UK Prime Minister David Cameron urged British voters on Wednesday to sign up for voting in the EU membership referendum, after the registration was extended due to the UK government website's crash earlier.

June 7 was supposed to be the last day when voters could register to take part in the referendum. However, huge demand caused online system overload two hours before the deadline. Thus, around 50,000 people could not register.
This morning, UK Electoral Commission addressed the government to extend the registration deadline. According to the organization's statement, "it is vital that everyone who wants to participate in this historic referendum is able to".
Voters in the United Kingdom will take part in a referendum to be held June 23 to decide whether to remain part of the European Union.
