BELGRADE (Sputnik) – The protests were held in the capital Zagreb and in 13 other cities across Croatia on Wednesday. The demonstration in Zagreb’s main square, held under the slogan "Croatia can do better" attracted 40,000 people, RTL TV said.
Protesters argue that the comprehensive curricular reform, which aims to improve Croatia’s education system, is being blocked by the country’s center-right government.
The reform was initiated by the former center-left government over a year ago.
Protests in favor of the reform came after an expert group withdrew from the project, accusing the new government of too much interference.
About 300 NGOs (non-governmental organizations) and workers’ unions organized the Wednesday demonstrations.
