MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to Le Monde newspaper, the anti-police rally, organized by Urgence, Notre Police Assassine association, was set to be held at the Place de la Republique square on Wednesday.
"Our gathering was intended to be peaceful, we wanted to tell the police our truth, that there is impunity, that we want the police to consider this," head of the association, Amal Bentounsi, said commenting on the ban, as quoted by the newspaper.
In recent months, mass demonstrations in French cities against reforms to the labor law have caused clashes between activists and law enforcement. Some protesters have shouted anti-police slogans, breaking windows and throwing bottles and stones at police officers. Police has responded by using batons and tear-gas.
According to the statement by the Alliance Police Nationale, hundreds of police officers have been injured during the clashes.
