An online petition for the European Broadcasting Union and Eurovision Song Contest to review the results of the 2016 Eurovision had collected more than 200,000 signatures by Tuesday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Over 200,000 people signed the petition in just two days.

"We understand that the jury voting and televoting process is a hard and emotional one, but the number of people who've signed this shows just how many people are sure that this year's 'winner' is not the one who should’ve won. We do not doubt justice and the privacy of the contest that's why we think that there's a need to revise the results," Arthur Hovhannisyan from Armenia, author of the petition on the Change.org website, wrote.

The 2016 Eurovision Song Contest saw the most significant changes in the voting system since 1975, with each country now allocating points from two separate streams: a national jury and the general public, who voted by telephone.

Russian singer Sergei Lazarev came out on top in terms of televotes, while the Australian entry was the favorite among the professional juries. However, the Ukranian song ‘1944’ by Jamala ended up winning the contests when the two voting counts were combined.

The disparity between the televoting and professional jury results caused many to question whether the Eurovision contest is politically biased.
