Catalan Parliament Receives First Project of Constitution

The first project of Catalan constitution was submitted to the president of Catalan Parliament, Carme Forcadell, on Wednesday, the legislature said in a statement.

MADRID (Sputnik) — According to the spokesman of Constituim organization, which developed the project, Jordi Domingo, it is not a final version of the document and it has to be modified with the help of the public.

There are 149 points in the project and it is supposed to be transferred to the Parliament commission for discussion, according to local news outlet La Vanguardia. According to the project, Catalonia will become a presidential republic where elections must be held every 5 years. Catalan and Aranese are considered as the official languages of the Catalonia while Spanish received special legal status.

Furthermore, the questions such as freedom of the speech, information, religious freedoms, euthanasia are discussed in the project.

Spanish Far-Right Political Forces to Present New Party Respeto Saturday

On November 9, the Parliament of Catalonia passed a resolution to begin the process of seceding from Spain. The process of gaining independence from Spain consists of forming a government and other state structures, as well as drawing up a constitution.

Madrid disputed the process with a complaint to the Spanish constitutional court, which unanimously voted to abolish the resolution. Catalan does not recognize the supreme court ruling.
