The newspaper quoted prosecutors who said the busted terrorist cell had links to Daesh and al-Qaeda, which are outlawed as terrorist organizations in Europe, the United States and Russia.

The Islamists planned to strike civilian, government and military targets, including ports, airports, hotels and shopping malls, the outlet said.

Last week, Europol, the European Union's law enforcement agency, said it did not rule out the possibility of new terror attacks in Europe, after bombings in Brussels killed 31 people in March.
