French Parliament Extends State of Emergency Until End of July

The French parliament's upper house, the Senate, voted on Tuesday to extend a state of emergency in the country until the end of July in order to ensure the security during the UEFA Euro 2016 football championship and Tour de France, local media reported.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to the Le Telegramme newspaper, 309 senators voted in favor of the extension of the state of emergency, while 30 voted against the measure.

Following the November 13 terrorist attacks across Paris, which left at least 130 people dead, the French government introduced a three-month state of emergency across the country, which was later extended for another three months.

The Euro 2016 football championship is scheduled to take place in France from June 10 to July 10. Tour de France race will start on July 2 and end on July 24.
