A publicly-funded college in Spain has made waves after declaring it mandatory that all students attend exorcism classes.

The University College of Barberán and Collán (Colegio Mayor Universitario Barberán y Collár) has made it compulsory for their 196 students to complete a course containing seminars including one called, “The Evil.”

The course is said to be a series of lectures and activities given by Father José Antonio Fortea Cucurull, author of a treatise on demonology which includes a manual for exorcists called "Summa dæmoniaca.”

Father Fortea also wrote a publication titled Exorcística, which explains how to discern if a person has been possessed by an evil spirit, how to conduct an exorcism, before addressing the poltergeist phenomenon in so-called haunted houses.

Along with his guides, the author penned a series of ten novels revolving around the Christian idea of an apocalypse, which includes titles such as “Necronerópolis” and “Decalogia or Saga of the Apocalypse: Ciclus Apocalypticus.”

The college is funded in part by Spain’s Defence Ministry, and its student body consists entirely of members of military families.

The course has reportedly caused outrage and facetious behavior among some students, but none of the privileged scions of powerful families have have complained formally, according to El DIario.
