Sweden's royal family has extended, as Princess Sofia gave birth to a baby boy in Stockholm.

"For me and my wife, this is a great day full of emotion," Carl Philip said at a press conference following the birth of the couple's first child. In an earlier statement, the Royal Court said that both the 31-year-old Princess Sofia and her new firstborn son were in good health.

Carl Philip, 36, is the second child and only son of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden. He is not the first the first in line to the throne, with his elder sister Princess Victoria being the primary successor.

Carl Philip and Princess Sofia got married last year. Sofia Hellqvist is a former participant in TV reality show "Paradise Hotel" and also known for posing topless in a men's magazine.
