The Turkish Foreign Ministry refused to comment on the recent blocking of the Sputnik news agency website in Turkey, stating that the issue was not within its competence.

ANKARA (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, the Turkish Telecommunications Department confirmed that a decision had been made to block the Sputnik website within the country.

"We do not comment on matters within the competence of other departments. This is the issue of the Turkish Telecommunications Department," a Turkish Foreign Ministry representative told RIA Novosti.

The representative added that the Turkish Foreign Ministry may comment on the matter in the future if deemed necessary.

The Sputnik website was blocked in Turkey on Thursday evening, with the Turkish Telecommunications Department citing "administrative measures."
