Nearly 40 percent of Moldova nationals support the country's entry into the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) in case of holding of a national referendum over a foreign policy vector of the republic's development, a poll revealed Wednesday.

CHISINAU (Sputnik) — According to the poll by the Moldovan Association of sociologists and demographers, 39 percent of respondents would have voted for entry into the EEU, while 37 percent would have supported entry the European Union. This proportion has not significantly changed since February.

At least 7 percent of respondents prefer not to take part in the referendum, while 18 percent are unable to choose between these two options.

Over 1,000 of respondents older than 18 from 75 settlements took part in the survey.

Moldova signed a European Union Association Agreement in June 2014 to further economic and political integration with the bloc. The agreement stipulates for creation of the EU-Moldova free trade area. In addition, Moldova must fully open its market for European goods.

In response to this agreement Russia has introduced some temporary restrictive measures on imports from Moldova, which affected the Moldovan farmers' interests, who lost the right for duty-free deliveries of their goods to Russia.
