MOSCOW (Sputnik) — MAD's internal report revealed that 65 active soldiers were under probe over alleged Islamist sympathies.
As many as 22 soldiers of the German army have been identified as Islamists since 2007, with 17 of them relieved from their duties. The other five had completed their service by the time the probe ended, the broadcaster reported.
According to the media outlet, MAD has investigated a total of 320 suspected cases of Islamism since 2007.
In 2015, German Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere put the number of German citizens who had joined extremists at some 600, or eight per million.
