The extraordinary meeting of the EU Commission Committee for Civil Aviation Security (AVSEC) is the first in a series of planned events dedicated to transport security of the European Union, according to a source in the European Commission.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The extraordinary meeting of the EU Commission Committee for Civil Aviation Security (AVSEC) following the Brussels attacks would most likely bring no viable results, a source in the European Commission told Sputnik on Thursday.

EU Aviation Committee to Discuss Airport Security Amid Brussels Attacks
Last week, at least 35 people were killed and some 300 injured in two bomb blasts in Brussels’ Zaventem airport and an explosion in the city’s subway station Maelbeek. After the attacks, the AVSEC decided to hold an emergency meeting to discuss the security at the EU airports.

“We do not expect at the end of the day to have found a miracle solution. This is the first time since the attacks that we get everybody around the table, the Commission and experts from the 28 EU member states”, the source said.

He added that the working meeting is currently taking place in Amsterdam.

“This meeting is a first degree thing, it is also to prepare the transport council, which will meet informally in Amsterdam on the 14th of April.”

According to the source, the ongoing meeting is the first in a series of planned events dedicated to transport security.
