The Embassy in Paris encourages US citizens to maintain a high level of vigilance amid the strikes called by French labor unions, according to the official message.

WASHINGTON0 (Sputnik) — US citizens visiting or living in France should stay away from large gatherings on March 30-31 amid planned nationwide strikes, the US embassy in Paris said in a security message on Wednesday.

"The Embassy reminds US citizens that demonstrations and large events intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence," the message stated. "We strongly encourage US citizens to maintain a high level of vigilance."

The embassy explained that several French labor unions have called their workers to strike against reforms to the labor law.

"There could be resulting delays to trains and flights throughout France," the message added.

France and other countries of the European Union have recently beefed up security following a number of terrorist attacks, following the deadly November terror attacks in Paris, and March 22 blasts in the Belgian capital of Brussels.
