MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Belgian national football team has cancelled an upcoming friendly match with Portugal following terrorist attacks in Brussels, the Royal Belgian Football Association said Wednesday.
The match between Belgium and Portugal was scheduled to take place in Brussels on March 29.
"For safety and precaution, the city of Brussels asked the Belgian FA for the Belgium-Portugal match on March 29 to not take place," the association’s statement read.
The Belgian team cancelled its training on Tuesday and Wednesday morning in the wake of the attacks.
Belgian Health Minister Maggie De Block confirmed at least 31 deaths and 260 injuries in Tuesday's series of blasts in the departures hall in the Brussels international airport at Zaventem and an explosion in a subway carriage at the Maelbeek station, close to the EU institutions.
Belgian Foreign Minister Didier Reynders said that people of over 40 nationalities were among those killed or injured in the attacks.
