WASHINGTON (Sputnik) The US citizens who are currently living in or visiting Brussels should continue sheltering in place and avoid using public transport, US State Department said in a Twitter message on Tuesday.

"US citizens in Brussels — continue to shelter in place, avoid public transportation, monitor local media," the message stated.

The State Department has previously stated that the US authorities continue to work on establishing the status of all Americans in Brussels.

Earlier on Tuesday, two bombs exploded in the departure hall of Brussels international airport, leaving at least 11 people dead, while a blast at the central Brussels Maelbeek metro station killed another 24. According to the Belgian crisis center, some 250 people were injured in the attacks.
