Isolation of Muslims in Europe, Mideast Crises to Blame for Brussels Blasts
Afzal Khan, a Labour Party politician, called for combined efforts to ensure a global solution to violent extremism, stressing the complexity of the problem.
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The failure to integrate Muslim communities into European society and the many prolonged conflicts in the Middle East are the main causes of the Brussels attacks, a UK member of the European Parliament told Sputnik Tuesday.
Earlier in the day, a
series of blasts hit Brussels' Zaventem airport and a central metro station, killing at least 34 people and injuring over 200. The Belgian authorities are treating the explosions as part of a coordinated terrorist attack.
"There are several underlying issues that drive radicalization which can lead to criminal acts like those committed in Brussels. One of these issues are problems related to the integration of Europe´s Muslims communities. The other is the prolonged conflict and political instability in the Middle East, which we all bear responsibility for," Afzal Khan, a Labour Party politician, said.
Khan called for combined efforts to ensure a global solution to violent extremism, stressing the complexity of the problem.
