France Mobilizes 1,600 Additional Police at Transport, Belgian Border
10:33 GMT 22.03.2016 (Updated: 17:12 GMT 31.07.2023) French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve stated that up to 1,600 French policemen and gendarmes were deployed on the border between France and Belgium.
MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Up to 1,600 French police and gendarmes have been deployed to ensure security at the Belgian border and aboard public transport, French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said Tuesday.
"It is essential to maintain vigilance," Cazeneuve said in an address broadcast live on the BFMTV network.
Prosecutors confirmed 13 dead in
two suicide blasts at the Brussels Airport in the northeastern Zavenem municipality earlier on Tuesday. The latest reports had the death toll climb to 23 people.
All public transport has been shut down and the terror threat level has been raised to its maximum level as additional casualties have been reported in another explosion at a metro station in central Brussels.
