European Parliament Steps Up Security After Brussels Airport, Metro Blasts
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Russian Embassy in Brussels has not been closed despite the explosions that hit the Belgian capital earlier in the day, the Russian Foreign Ministry's spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Tuesday.

"The embassy continues its operations as per normal. Of course, the security measures have been reinforced, but it remains open because, in fact, its main task at such crisis times is to provide all the relevant assistance to the Russian citizens and to clarify their fate," Zakharova told reporters, answering a corresponding question.

A series of blasts hit the Belgian capital earlier in the day, including two explosions in the Brussels Zaventem airport that left 13 people killed and over 35 injured. Fifteen people were killed in Tuesday's explosion at the Maalbeek metro station in central Brussels, local media reported.
