BRUSSELS (Reports) – The procedure to extradite for one of the suspects in the Paris attacks case, Salah Abdeslam, to France will take up to 45 days, Belgian media reported Monday.
Abdeslam was arrested during a police raid in Brussels on Friday and formally charged the next day with terrorist murder in connection with the November 13 attacks. He admitted that he had planned to detonate his suicide vest but changed his mind.
France issued a European warrant for the arrest of the suspected terrorist last year. According to the suspect’s lawyer, Sven Mary, Abdeslam will refuse to be extradited to France.
On November 13, a series of terrorist attacks were staged across the French capital, leading to the death of 130 people and injuring over 350 others. One of the attacks occurred at the Stade de France stadium, where President Francois Hollande was watching a friendly match between France and Germany.
Abdeslam, a French national born in Belgium, fled the scene of the Paris terror attacks on the night of November 13 and escaped to the Molenbeek district of the Belgian capital where he was caught after being on the run for four months.
