Two lines of London Underground may offer a 24-hour weekend service from August 2016, local media reported.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — London Underground is planning to offer a 24-hour weekend service from August 2016, local media reported.

London passengers will be able to use the Victoria and Jubilee lines during the night time on Fridays and Saturdays from August, the Press Association news agency reported on Monday, citing sources. The Central, Northern and Piccadilly lines will operate a 24-hour service from September, according to the report.

Britain's Transport for London (TfL) government body has not officially named dates for the start of the overnight service yet.

The London Underground said it wants to launch the new service because of a huge increase in passenger numbers, especially on weekends.

The 24 hour service was due to start on weekends on certain lines from September 12, however, lengthy talks with labor unions over pay and working conditions led to delays. Earlier in March, two labor unions, Aslef and the Rail, Maritime and Transport, accepted the overnight work pay deal. The Transport Salaried Staffs Association and Unite unions are yet to accept the Transport for London pay deal.
