Ukrainian public support for EU accession has decreased by seven percent in the space of a year, a survey revealed Friday.

KIEV (Sputnik) — According to the opinion poll conducted by the Kiev-based Gorshenin Institute think tank in February, 55.2 percent of respondents believed that Ukraine should continue on the path of European integration, compared to some 62.2 percent who held this opinion in 2015.

The poll revealed that the number of people, who oppose the idea of integration — be it with the European Union or with the Customs Union of Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan — has increased by almost 10 percent.

The new Kiev authorities, that came to power in Ukraine in February 2014 following what many consider to have been a coup, are pro-EU and NATO integration. Later in the year, the Ukrainian government signed an association agreement with the 28-nation bloc.
