ROME (Sputnik) – An Italian pilot allegedly threatened to crash a passenger jet last year if his wife left him, Italian press reported late Sunday.
"If you leave me, I will plunge the plane," the pilot wrote in a text message to his wife in January 2015, as revealed by the Il Fatto Quotidiano daily.
The pilot was later stopped by police as he boarded the plane bound for Tokyo from Rome, tipped by the wife’s alert. The husband was reportedly suspended and sent to undergo a psychotherapy course.
The latest information was leaked ahead of a one-year anniversary of the deadly March 24 Germanwings crash in the French Alps.
Data recorders recovered from the Barcelona-Dusseldorf Flight 9525 suggested co-pilot Andreas Lubitz deliberately downed the plane after locking the pilot out of the cockpit.
