The Russians Are Coming! US Pressures Europe to Spend More on Military

The US is pressuring Denmark and several other European nations to increase defense spending.

According to Danish newspaper Berlingske, the US is pushing the line that  the ‘Russian threat’ is real and must be confronted via military means, essentially starting a new Cold War. However, some nations remain skeptical of Washington’s rhetoric.

This diplomatic effort comes ahead of the upcoming NATO summit scheduled to take place in Warsaw in July, as Washington seeks to persuade European member states to increase their financial contribution to the alliance’s needs.

"I think that the Danish government knows what I, as an American ambassador, think about the Danish defense budget," US ambassador to Copenhagen Rufus Gifford told Berlingske. "For a very long time we have known that European countries have cut their defense spending. But now is the time to reinvest. It will be a very important subject at the July summit in Warsaw."

Denmark currently spends about 1.2 percent of its GDP on defense, which the US apparently thinks is not enough.

"The current trend (to cut on defense spending) must completely stop. And I do mean completely stop," the ambassador reiterated.

Therefore, he added, it is important for the US that the summit participants agree on the necessity to spend more on defense throughout Europe.

Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, France and the UK have apparently taken heed of Washington’s message and have announced increased defense budgets for the coming years, Berlingske remarks, and Norway is also considering ramping up its military spending.

Meanwhile, Denmark’s Chief of Defense Peter Bartram who, following his appointment in 2012 was tasked with trimming the defense budget, has publically announced that he expects the government to increase military funding in 2017.

I, as an American citizen, think that the above referenced "ambassador" is full of sh.., uh, crap! Where does the government find these fools? Never mind, I know the answer to that...it's just frustrating to see the damage these people do.

I am a "news junky" and read the news from many different sources. I am no expert in foreign affairs, nor do I pretend to be. I simply cannot see where Russia is the great threat that the USA claims it to be.

My guess is that those mighty corporations involved in the military industrial complexes are looking for greater profits.

It is only a matter of time before big "Agro' and "big Pharma" clamor to get on the bandwagon.

Stupid move, just more taxpayers money wasted, by an incompetent US President!
Will do nothing to solve issues and repair relationships. Disturbing!

The bankrupt banking system needs the extra income from the military hardware producing companies they own of course.
Everything going on in the world now must be seen in the light of the bankrupt western dominated financial system!

And of course buy only American military hardware at any cost like the infamous dysfunctional F-35.

Isn't Monsanto throwing it weight around in this world? Only trouble for Monsanto is that it isn't as easy to buy politicians to further poisoning of us as in America.

We all know that the American Ambassador is speaking gobbledygook. But being programmed to bring on the anti Russian mantra, what else can he do but comply with the programming. The poor weak delusional soul. It's all about war isn't it? Never about peace? No! Not on his watch.

I recall some article, published in Danish or Swedish media, during the Iraq war. As a remember it, some Danish representative of Defense authority was hinting at withdrawing forces from the alliance, whether it was bombing Afghanistan or Iraq, and almost immidiately some USA/NATO general of these distructional forces had comments on, meaning it wasn't up to the Danes to decide. Actually when reading this, one could feel this including threat in the air.

In fact, I do hope that the Russians are coming for real !
I am fed up with those irrelevant values imposed by minorities.

Let's all spend more on Russian language courses, red carpets, and confetti to welcome the Russian's appropriately when they come to liberate us from US meddling, as they are doing in Syria.

While Europe hides under the bed, terrified of dancing bears - Russian trade delegations will be entering via the front door to sign up their wealth.

      What is really interesting here?

US manufactured goods exports are now below $2 Trillion of which over 50% are Arms Exports !

Getting NATO countries to spend more on arms is nothing other than an export drive !!

Making weapons your number one export means you need wars & enemies for your pals to fight - Russia's face fits the bill - SIMPLE ?

reinvest in defence spending - interesting concept.
