UK Supreme Court to Hear Families' Appeals on Minimum Income Visa Rules

Families of British citizens that argue they have been denied the right to live in the United Kingdom due to the visa requirements with regard to minimum income, are expected to appeal to the supreme court, local media reported.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to The Guardian, a British citizen has to earn over 18,600 pounds (some $26,800) to be allowed to bring over a non-EU spouse, while the minimum income has to be at least 22,400 pounds in case the family has a child who does not hold British citizenship. Each subsequent child would require additional 2,400 pounds to the income.

The supreme court challenge, according to the media outlet, has three appellants, two of whom are British married to Pakistani nationals, while the third is a Lebanese refugee.

Over 40 people from the BritCits campaign aimed at supporting divided families are due to attend the supreme court hearings this week, the media outlet reported. Many of them have children forced to live outside the United Kingdom or non-EU spouses.

A ruling on the issue is not expected to appear for a number of months, the newspaper reported.
