The Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) union of metro and bus services’ February 22-24 strike coincides with the Mobile World Congress trade fair.

MADRID (Sputnik) – The GSM Association of the world’s mobile operators announced a contingency plan on Sunday for up to 95,000 participants of next week’s mobile industry exhibition to minimize difficulties associated with a transport union strike in Barcelona.

The Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) union of metro and bus services’ February 22-24 strike coincides with the Mobile World Congress trade fair.

"We are immediately activating a contingency plan to ensure that attendees can safely travel to and from the Fira Gran Via venue and can enter the facility as quickly as possible," GSMA said in a statement.

GSMA said it would "augment" public transportation throughout exhibition days, including a fleet of hotel shuttle buses from 15 collection points around the city.

Up to 3,600 of TMB union members are expected to stage a walk-out in favor of a 1-percent wage increase and more full-time staff members.

Services will run at 30 percent capacity in off-peak hours and at half capacity during rush hour, according to TMB.
