MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The French authorities have issued an order, under which migrants have to leave the "Jungle" camp in the French port city of Calais by 8 p.m. local time (19:00 GMT) on Tuesday, media reported.

According to the Sky News broadcaster, police will clear the camp of makeshift dwellings and forcibly remove any refugees who refuse to vacate the area.

Channeling More Money to Stop Calais Migrants on Route to Britain
The authorities said that up to 1,000 people could be affected by the eviction order, while activists claim this number might be twice as high. The migrants are being ordered to move to nearby Calais or other refugee centers in France.

Up to 6,000 migrants have been camping out for months on the outskirts of Calais, seeking to cross the Channel Tunnel and apply for asylum in the United Kingdom.

When the migrant crisis erupted near the Channel Tunnel in summer 2015, UK Prime Minister David Cameron vowed to step up security at the border, by reinforcing fences and deploying additional troops.
