Former Prime Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault was appointed as new minister of Foreign Affairs replacing Laurent Fabius who stepped down earlier.

Veteran French politician Laurent Fabius has stepped down as Foreign Minister on Wednesday after he criticized the US’ "ambiguous" policy over the Syrian crisis, Guardian reported.

“There are the ambiguities among the actors of the coalition … I’m not going to repeat what I’ve said before about the main pilot of the coalition,” Laurent Fabius told reporters. “But we don’t have the feeling that there is a very strong commitment there.”

French president Francois Hollande has appointed Jean-Marc Ayrault as the new head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs amid a major cabinet reshuffle.

The Housing Minister was also replaced. The head of the Greens party, Emmanuelle Cosse, joins the government as Housing Minister.

Manuel Valls stays on as prime minister, Michel Sapin as finance minister and Emmanuel Macron as economy minister.
