"ICRC is ready to step up its operation according to the needs in Ukraine and then there areas on which we are still working," Maurer said.
Asked whether he was intending to visit Russia or Ukraine, Maurer said that no such trip was planned, "but it doesn't mean it doesn't take place."
Peter Maurer held a meeting with Ukrainian president Petro Poroshenko on the sidelines of Davos forum on Thursday. He is expected to meet with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin soon.
Ukraine has been mired in violence since 2014, when the Kiev-led forces launched a military operation against the independence supporters in the country’s southeast.
The conflicting sides reached a ceasefire agreement last February. The truce is generally holding, according to international observers, yet the sides continue accusing each other of sporadic ceasefire breaches. The confrontation has claimed over 9,000 lives, according to UN estimates.
