UK Airlines Extend Egypt’s Sharm el Sheikh Flight Cancellations

British airlines have extended their flight cancellations to the Egyptian Red Sea resort town of Sharm el Sheikh until the government changes its travel advisories.

LONDON (Sputnik) – The low-cost airline said the cancellations were in effect until May 27.

"Following the change to the Government’s advice on travel to and from Sharm el Sheikh in November last year, we suspended all flying between the UK and Sharm el Sheikh and won’t resume flights until the Government’s advice changes," the EasyJet airline said in a statement published mid-Tuesday.

British Airways grounded planes until March 26. Thomson Airways and Thomas Cook canceled flights until March 23, while Monarch Airways suspended flights until February 14.

Britain grounded flights to the Egyptian resort in the Sinai Peninsula after a Russian airliner crashed in the desert on October 31, soon after it took off at the Sharm el Sheikh airport.

The investigation into the cause of the crash is continuing, but Russian authorities said in mid-November it appeared to have been caused by an explosive device on board the flight. Militants affiliated with the Daesh terror group claimed credit for what they said was a bomb attack.
