"As chair of the OSCE, Germany plans to take even more responsibility this year – responsibility for peace and security in a territory that spans 57 nations on three continents – from the US and Canada through Europe, Russia and Turkey to Central Asia," Steinmeier said at an official event in Berlin.
Steinmeier is expected to present Germany’s vision of its chairmanship on Thursday. Its key priorities are renewing dialogue, rebuilding trust, and restoring security.
The Ukrainian crisis will stay high on the priority list, according to the German Foreign Office, along with other unresolved regional conflicts.
This is the second time that Berlin has headed the world’s largest regional security organization since 1991. Germany will be assisted in this function by the previous chair Serbia and the future chair, which is Austria.
